The arrival of Dr Tahirul Qadri and the massive public support that he has generated, as manifested in the mammoth Lahore public meeting, described as the largest in the history of Pakistan by some media pundits, has rattled the entire spectrum, rank and file of the dynastical and sundry professional politicians.

From spokespersons of the major political parties to partisan TV anchors, the vested interest, are taking exception to Dr Qadri's slogan, "save state, not politics", questioning timing of his arrival into Pakistan and appropriateness of holding of a public meeting in Lahore on December 23.

First of all, it is a free world, a free country and all citizens, individually or collectively, have the right of freedom of speech and expression and as their basic right, duly recognised and enshrined in the country's constitution. This right of an individual cannot be denied to Dr Qadri, simply because some disagree with the content and subject of his speech. As for the objection to the timing Dr Qadri had chosen for the public meeting, it is suffice to say that 'anytime is a good time', for the clock never stops ticking away while the time passes by. Holding of public meetings, peaceful protest rallies, raising issues of concern and resistance based on one's perception, his or her experience, views and principles, subjective as may be, is also an inalienable right of a legitimate conscientious objector.

One is simply amazed that spokespersons of various political parties and brazenly partisan TV anchors have the audacity to question the source of money that has gone into financing of the December 23 public meeting in Lahore. Has anyone, at anytime, questioned the source of means and financing of the huge public meetings across the country by the leaders of the two biggest political parties - PPP and PML-N - as well as the sundry coalition parties? Pakistanis are shackled under the excruciating yoke of the corrupt to the core ruling clique, untrustworthy opposition, their cronies, proxy operatives and the nation desperately wants to unshackle itself and yearns for a change for the good of the country and the downtrodden masses. Who cares where the money comes from, if it is invested in a struggle to eliminate and get rid of the corrupt and crooks from Pakistan's body polity?
